If you like interesting hotels or are tired of every hotel you go to feeling the exact same, then this is the article for you! Here is my list of the most unique and memorable hotels in San Diego!
Hotel Del Coronado
This hotel is very memorable because it has had many famous people stay in it, including Marilyn Monroe and practically every well-known United States president, along with Charlie Chaplin and Katherine Hepburn. There was even a movie filmed here called, “Some Like It Hot” starring Marilyn Monroe.
This hotel is rumored to be haunted so if you want to go ghost hunting or call the ghostbusters, this is the place for you. The story goes something like this:
A young woman named Kate Morgan checked into the hotel on Thanksgiving Day in 1892 waiting for her lover to arrive for a romantic rendezvous. He never showed up, and after waiting for 5 days for him, Kate killed herself.
It is said that she still roams the third floor. Many guests have reported hearing noises or otherwise feeling her presence.
Even if you aren’t interested in the historical aspects of this hotel, it is a very beautiful place to stay and looks like the combination of a castle and Renaissance-style buildings from Florence, Italy.
Plus, it is right next to the beach so you can just walk outside the door of the hotel and into the water without any hassle at all.

San Diego Mission Bay Resort
If you love to swim, soak up some rays by the pool, or people watch in a beautiful environment, then this hotel, which has the coolest looking pool I have ever seen at any hotel, is for you.
Not only does it have a pool, but it is right next to the beach so if you get tired of the pool, which you won’t, you can take a break and lie out on the sand or play in the ocean.
The San Diego Mission Bay Resort is also unique because of the many resort games it offers. Not only does it have volleyball and basketball, but you can challenge your friends or random strangers to play giant chess and checkers so everyone can see how good you are.

Fairmont Grand Del Mar
If you are looking to have the best time of your entire life, then look no further. The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is the luxurious hotel for you.
This 5-star hotel has it all from an award-winning golf course to horseback riding. It even has pickleball.
If you are looking to relax then this is also the place for you. Not only does this hotel have golf, horseback riding and pickleball, but it also has the best 5-star spa in all of San Diego.
On top of all that, it also has many fine-dining options. If you are looking for a place to relax and have the most fun ever, then I highly suggest this hotel.

Hotel Indigo Gaslamp Quarter
This hotel is insane. It is only a 12 minute walk from the San Diego Convention Center. This is great because not only is the San Diego Convention Center one of the coolest buildings I have seen in my entire life, but there are many events that happen there, like ComiCon.
This is a really good hotel to stay at if you are planning on going to the convention center because of how close it is to it.
This hotel is also really cool because the hotel rooms feel more like apartments than hotel rooms, so you can settle down and feel like you are really at home during your stay.
This hotel is also really close to a ton of really good bars and restaurants and has a top notch fitness center so while you are in town you can eat some great food and maintain your exercise routines.
You can even see the PetCo park stadium from your room so you can watch baseball live without having pay!

Moxy San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter
This hotel is home to the coolest bar I have ever seen in any hotel. It is sure to attract a lot of young and really interesting people. The location of the hotel in downtown San Diego is also great for proximity to restaurants and the local night life.
The design of this hotel also makes it look really cool and unique. The hotel opened in 2018 so it is really new in terms of hotels and will give you an updated modern experience.
If you are looking for a unique, modern experience, this hotel is for you.

Hotel Z – staypineapple
If you love pineapples then I think that you would love to stay at this hotel. Everything from the pillows to the building itself has pictures of pineapples on it giving the location a unique and fun vibe.
This place is also within walking distance from the Petco Park and theSan Diego Convention Center, which is really awesome if you’re into walking to places. Plus, you get unlimited water bottles that you can take with you to stay hydrated on your walk.
This place is also even more unique than most other hotels because it is super pet friendly. Your dog can stay with you and even sleep in your hotel room with you.

Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant
This hotel is unlike any other on this list, which makes it the most unique hotel on this list. It was built in 1827 as a house. That was so long ago that California wasn’t even a part of the United States. Now, it still stands today as a historic hotel for us to stay in.
This place is not only a hotel, but a restaurant. They serve a combination of Mexican food and American food as a nod to its history because California was part of Mexico when the hotel was built and they want to show all of the cultures that this house has been through.
This hotel is also insanely unique because you can get married there. You can experience the history of Old Town San Diego while creating your own history as you join with your spouse for the rest of your lives.
